Kelsey’s Story

Kelsey Gins is more than a Pacific Northwest spirit. It is the legacy of Kelsey Buchanan—a radiant young mother of three, a beloved wife, and the inspiration behind Olympia Distilling Co.’s most personal creation.

After being diagnosed with a genetic form of lung cancer in 2019, Kelsey poured her strength and creativity into developing the gins that now bear her name. She helped create the formulas, personally selected the saffron that gives Kelsey Gold its warmth and chose the butterfly pea flower that gives Kelsey Blue its remarkable color.

Kelsey’s influence extended to every detail, from the labels and packaging to the shape of the bottles. Her vision and creativity are present in every bottle.

Kelsey passed away in 2023 at the age of 37—but not before seeing her dream come to life. In her final days, a bottle of Kelsey Gin rested on the windowsill beside her. Although she was too weak to hold it, she saw it and smiled. Her idea had become real, and her legacy was already beginning.

For every bottle of Kelsey Blue or Kelsey Gold sold, $5 supports Kelseys New Beginnings, helping people facing cancer with transportation and other practical needs.

“This gin carries so much more than flavor. It carries her story, her vision, and her love. Every sip is a tribute to who she was and the legacy she wanted to leave behind.”
— Lesa Givens, Kelsey’s cousin and co-owner of Olympia Distilling Co.
